NRE, NRO, or GIFT City
Every product on this site — mutual funds, PMS, AIF, SIF — is reachable from abroad through one of three account structures. Which one depends on where your money originates.
| NRE Account | NRO Account | |
|---|---|---|
| For | Foreign earnings, parked in India | Income originating in India (rent, dividends, pension) |
| Repatriation | Fully repatriable, no cap, no RBI approval | Capped at USD 1M/year/PAN, needs Form 15CA + 15CB |
| Interest tax | Tax-exempt in India | Taxable, TDS deducted at source |
| Transfer speed | Typically 1–3 working days | Slower — documentation-dependent |
NRE is simpler for new foreign money coming in. NRO is necessary for money that already originates in India.
A third option
Or skip both, via GIFT City
NRIs can invest via GIFT City IBU accounts directly from an overseas bank account — bypassing NRE/NRO entirely, with no repatriation cap and no round-trip currency conversion.
